DAY 3 

“LEARN TO LET GO”

Welcome to DAY 3 of 7 DAYS OF HAPPINESS!

Yesterday, I introduced the idea of self-love and acceptance. I hope you were able to practice throughout the day and experience the benefits🙏🏼

    Today, I want to talk about another important principle. The ability to let go. It’s natural for us to want things to go in certain way. If we had it all our way, we would control everything. Our appearance, our health, the weather, but unfortunately in the game of life there aren’t many things we can control but we can however choose how to respond to things whenever they don’t go our way. And the answer is in letting it go. Might we find freedom and happiness in if we can learn to accept the past and the present? When you have no control over how things go and you get angry or upset, the person you are hurting most is YOU. Now you want to allow yourself to feel whatever comes up when you experience resistance, that’s essential but it’s important to keep in mind that the sooner you can accept whatever is going on, the sooner you will experience freedom and peace of mind. 

    So let’s start our practice today by finding a quite place to sit where you won’t be disturbed. As you become still, place your focus on the breath. Take a few deep breaths and with each breath you take, let your body feel more and more at ease. Try to let go of any desire to try to be in a certain way. 

Just follow the breath without any effort. Allow it to happen as it happens. Breath in and let go over and over. Notice where your mind is, and if you got swept away in thoughts, make no judgements about it. Just gently return to the breath. When you notice you are caught up in thoughts, rather than grabbing onto them or getting lost in them see if you can gently release them. Let go of thoughts, sounds, sensations, and anything that distracts you. Let go as you are releasing a balloon into the sky and return onto the breath over and over. Now shift your attention from your breath to the body.

LET GO OF EVERYTHING YOU ARE NOT

LET GO OF THAT WHICH DOESN’T SERVE YOU

As our practice finishes, notice how letting go of things makes you feel. It is in our nature to hold on and control whatever we can but sometimes we don’t have any say. So rather than creating more pain through resistance, we can accept the reality as it is and let go. Like anything, letting go is a habit so start with the small stuff. If someone is late to meet you instead making it a big deal, see if you can forgive freely and let go. If you find yourself upset and irritated throughout the day, take a few breaths and ask yourself: If I cannot change that, can I let it be? Can I let go? Can I practice accepting reality as it is in order to preserve my peace of mind? Letting go can be the most loving thing that we can do for ourselves. Practice it and see how free you can be and observe the increase of your happiness.
